Kwajalein School System (KSS) is located on a secure Army installation dedicated to supporting the missions of the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) on Kwajalein Island in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). KSS is a private institution operated by V2X, a logistics and engineering support contractor for LOGCAP V. KSS is accredited by the Cognia. KSS consists of two campuses: George Seitz Elementary School and Kwajalein Junior-Senior High School. George Seitz Elementary School serves approximately 100 children kindergarten through the sixth grade. Kwajalein Junior-Senior High School serves approximately 100 students in grades 7 through 12. KSS teaches an American curriculum aligned to DoDEA standards (CCSS) and is designed to equip students to become life-long learners, effective problem-solvers, responsible citizens, and caring contributors to humankind. Teachers must have U.S. state certifications in the areas they are teaching and be able to obtain proper clearances to live on base.
Demographically, KSS serves mainly dependents of U.S. civilian and U.S. military personnel working on the island. Through government sponsorship called the Rikatak Program, specially-selected students of the RMI also attend our school system. Many private companies and government entities participate in supporting school operations including: MIT/Lincoln Laboratory, V2X, RGNext, Tribal Co., and the U.S Army. Many parents have professional and technical backgrounds. Due to resource limitations, Kwajalein schools cannot provide formal programs or services for students who have more than mild learning disabilities or mild deficits in speech, reading, or language development. There is a K-12 ELL program.
Our K-12 school resides on two campuses. The Kwajalein Jr.-Sr. High School houses the 7th -12th grade Spartans, providing a variety of courses preparing students for college and careers upon graduation. National Honor Society, Student Government, and sports to include basketball, soccer, volleyball, and softball are some of the extra curricular activities offered to students. George Seitz Elementary houses our Kindergarten through 6th graders on the other campus, providing a solid foundation in the core subjects as well as music, physical education, art, library, computers, and band is offered for 5th and 6th graders. Our George Seitz Dolphins also participate in Student Council, swim lessons, and have access to the CYS activities (sports, STEM activities, etc.) on island.
Our students enjoy small class sizes and unique opportunities to shine in our small community. Turkey Bowl in the fall and the talent show in the spring are big events on Kwajalein for the whole community. Our band students have many opportunities to perform for the community whether it be at a Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day ceremony, at the Marshallese Liberation Day ceremony on Ebeye, or the Ballroom Dinner Dance, or at one of the many concerts throughout the year. We believe the small town community and the excellent teaching staff help our students to develop leadership skills and to find their hidden talents. Students are valued for who they are and the strengths they posses as they learn to make positive contributions to the world they live in.
